TASTE OF THE BUSH, AFRICAN JOURNEYS -
A SAFARI COMPANY WITH A DIFFERENCE...
Since we know very well that experiencing the wildlife and nature is mainly what draws guests to Africa, we pride ourselves firstly on delivering safari experiences of the highest standard, whether in an open safari vehicle or on foot in Big 5 territory. We do our very best to show the guest as many forms of wildlife as nature permits, from the small five to the big 5, from the early riser to the nocturnal hunter, and all the birds in between. With decades of experience in the African bush your knowledgeable guide will provide you with wildlife and nature experiences to remember. He has an incredible knowledge of the bush and loves to share this knowledge with guests, additionally treating them to his archive of bush stories, gained through many years of pursuing his love for nature!
Our safari vehicle is specially equipped for photographic safaris with camera platforms on the sides, and your guide for these specialized safaris has a very good knowledge of what is important to photographers, due to film studies and various types of photographic trips conducted over the last decade. We take care to provide the best light and position possible when we position the vehicle and every evening we have a meeting to discuss the mission for the next day`s photography. The guide is a professional photographer and knows what the guests want. We also specialize in birding and often combine photographic safaris with birding tours. All our photographic safaris are private tours with maximum 6 guests on the safari vehicle. We can also assist in the hiring of photographic equipment.
Taste Of The Bush offers our guests local African cuisine, since we have discerned through many years of experience that this is a real desire with most foreign guests to Africa. We do offer "normal cuisine" as well, but our focus is on giving the guest as many opportunities as possible to sample various types of traditional food with us, whether at specifically chosen restaurants or prepared over an open fire in the bush (what we call a "braai"!). We believe that this focus sets us apart from other operators and adds a much needed richness of experience to the standard African safari on offer. We also cater for vegetarians and will do our best to meet any other dietary requirements our guests may have. On a trip in 2019 a world traveler who always eats local said she has never eaten foreign food that tasted so good!
If you decide to join us for Package 2, we have the pleasure of showing off the breathtaking beauty of the Lowveld region surrounding the Kruger National Park. On this tour, we visit the most beautiful sites (viewpoints, waterfalls, etc.) on the famous Panorama route, explore the great Blyde RIver Canyon and Swadini Dam, and pay an educational visit to the world famous Moholoholo animal rehabilitation centre.
We visit the finest spots there are in both the Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces of South Africa. Want to do the big swing near Graskop, we can take you there! Or what about a hot air baloon trip, or a round of golf at one of the golf courses in the bush? There is so much to see and do! Let us take you there!
Your Taste Of The Bush guide has a very relevant knowledge of South African history, especially with regard to the Kruger National Park and surrounding area. He delights in sharing this knowledge with his guests, leaving them both entertained and informed. The history of the Kruger Park is extremely interesting, from the romantic gold rush times, to the founders, the first warden & rangers, the most famous dog in Africa - Jock of the bushveld, and so much more! We can even arrange a trip to also cover most of the historical sites in and around the Kruger for guests who have an interest in this area`s colourful history.
Our business is taking people into the bush, be it for a once off day trip into the Kruger Park or as part of a longer vacation. We are extremely flexible when it comes to putting together tailor made packages to suit any specific needs our guests many have. Taste Of The Bush can also take you to any other area in Southern Africa if that is your need! Please feel free to tell us, therefore, where our expertise can meet your expectation. We can take guests on a golfing safari where you can play courses inside the Kruger and overlooking the Kruger! We can arrange hiking trails, fly fishing in the mountains, trips to Eswetini (formely Swaziland) and Zululand or to Mapungubwe or any other Southern Afircan destination!
This option is for the guest who wants to experience the best that the Kruger has to offer, maximising the time spent on wildlife and nature experiences in the bush.
The Kruger National Park has more mammals than any park in the world and more birds (in summer) than most countries! We cover as much of the Kruger as possible within the time allocated to allow our guests to experience as many of the different eco-zones the Kruger has to offer! All game drives are conducted in our open safari vehicle and an additional night drive is booked with a vehicle and guide of the park itself.
The Kruger Park`s history is most interesting! It has many stories to tell: of a time when the Kruger was just a dream, of brave men fighting to conserve this land, of a time when Jock of the bushveld became the most famous dog in Africa, a time when legends were born under the African sunset... Your Taste Of The Bush guide will share with you these stories around the camp fire at night, or as you pass one of the many historic locations!
There are several private game reserves immediately surrounding the Kruger Park, collectively referred to as the Greater Kruger Park. Since no fences exist between the park and these protected areas, game can cross over freely between the Kruger and the adjacent reserves. A guided bush walk within this extended big 5 area forms part of both tour packages.
This is our premium product & the ideal option for guests who enjoy a bit of everything. From authentic wildlife safaris to scenic tours & educational experiences, this tour is diverse & comprehensive, even offering a look into the interesting history of the romantic gold rush era.
A tour of the Panorama Route offers a breathtaking trip up the northern ranges of the extended Drakensberg Mountain Range. Such a tour consists of many scenic stops, various beautiful waterfalls, Wonder View, Bourke`s Luck Potholes, the Blyde River Canyon and the Graskop Gorge Lift. The guide knows the interesting history of the whole route and loves to share it with our guests!
A visit to the world renowned Moholoholo wildlife rehabilitation centre offers the guest the opportunity to get up close & personal with African animals that cannot be released back into the wild. The educational value of this centre is most significant in that it gives the visitor a better idea of how the animals look from a very close distance, leading to an enhanced appreciation of their magnificence!
We have discerned through many conversations with tourists to Africa that they would have liked more exposure to traditional South African food while on safari. Thus, we invite you to sample various types of local foods with us, be it different types of game meat or local dishes and treats like cooked pumpkin leaves, scrambled ostrich eggs, koeksisters, and more...
